St Anton, Austria - about the best ski resort in Austria
About the best in Austria, a country which in many respects leads the world in providing ski destinations. St Anton offers a huge ski area that has great terrain for all abilities, magnificent scenery and a resort that offers both upmarket accommodation and great apres ski. St Anton is a must.
The après ski is as good as it gets anywhere in Austria and the Austrians certainly lead the world in this role. And the scenery is as breath-taking as anything you will find in the Austria province of the Tirol, known as the heart of the Alps.
Other aspects that ensure the ski resort maintains its dominance in the region and its place in the world are the location of the resort, at 1300m altitude and set in the some of the most snow reliable mountains in the Alps, the resort is blessed with great snow. The area is vast and diverse the terrain varies from the comfort of the lower slopes that run into in the village, to the precipitous walls that form the ski routes down from the Valluga. St Christoph is linked to the resort and recently the satellite village of Nasserein has been linked by gondola. Located just across the valley is the ski area of Rendl which is served by the resort of St Anton. Here is where the main terrain/snowboard park is located. Slightly further away are the ski resorts of Lech and Zurs great destinations in themselves and well linked by ski bus.
After dark the resort really winds up with famous après ski starting in the mountain huts that are located on the lower slopes and continues on the main street that runs through the resort.
St Anton is an absolute must and since the transport system in Austria is so efficient, even a day trip from a resort or city like Innsbruck is a very real option.
